| Decorations: | RCAHMW/1925, 374: `A worked stone bearing an equal-armed cross within a circle, the quadrants indented with deeply-cusped curves'. Edwards/forthcoming: `(a) An incised linear equal-arm ring cross, diam. 8.25" (21cm), with triangular shape sunk into each of the quadrants, punch marks clearly visible. (b) A series of punched symbols and letters. (i) Top: V shape with central vertical bar. (ii) Below: A cross with half-round ring at the top. (iii) Left: Capital V with triangular serifs. (iv) Right: Capital L with triangular serifs and a horizontal bar across the bottom. There are traces of further carving below, now broken away...The RCAHMW drawing of the stone is very inaccurate and this may have led Nash-Williams (ECMW) to reject it. However the cross is quite clearly of early medieval type'. |
