| Palaeography: | Macalister/1949, 70: `The...lettering so closely resemble[s] those on no. 651 [CLMAC/55], that it is practically certain that those two come from the hand of the same lapidary'. CISP: The lettering is Insular half-uncial. The D, S, T, F, A and N all appear to have wedge-shaped finials. The R is majuscule, the S half-uncial and the F has a curved top stroke. The D has an ascender which bends to the left over an open bow. The T has a curved ascender and a flat top-stroke. The E is in the open uncial form with an extended central horizontal stroke. The A is half-uncial with a squarish bow and a flourish from the bottom right of this bow, like is also found on CLMAC/151, CLMAC/153, CLMAC/185, CLMAC/191, and CLMAC/248. This is a different form of A than appears on CLMAC/55. The A also has an accent over it. The final N is almost in the form of a minuscule H, the left-most ascender continuing beyond the curved top stroke. |
