Macalister/1909, 46--47: `A beautiful and most peculiar cross...it had a circular central, and looped square terminal expansions. The centre had in the middle a square, surrounded by four lozenges at the roots of the arms, head and base of the cross; each of these five spaces had a knot in the centre. There were also elaborate knots on the arms extending into the square expansions'. |

| Palaeography: | CISP: The lettering is Insular half-uncial. The G and E have wedge-shaped finials. The initial O is almost heart-shaped, while the open bow of the D certainly is. The D also has an ascender which bends to the left over this bow. The U's are flat-bottomed, with descenders extending below the bottom stroke. The G is half-uncial. The E is uncial with an extended horizontal stroke. The M has curved top strokes and the R is majuscule. |
